Many people think that developing their own business, working from home, and eventually telling their boss to shove it, that they’re not working for him anymore, would be a dream come true.

These days, instead of making widgets in the basement, expanding to the garage, and eventually mushrooming the fledgling company into real commercial space with employees, many folks are turning to the internet for their living.

It may seem like a sure-fire thing to come up with a product and begin selling your services to the whole world. However successful internet marketing is not as simple as creating a website. Just ask any conventional business person how they would expand and integrate online sales into their day to day operations. The answers are certainly not obvious.

An entrepreneur must do a great deal of analysis, planning, and learn a whole new set of skills to make the leap. It isn’t simply a matter of having a website or an email address.

Internet marketing is so open ended that it can be difficult to zero in on exactly what you want to achieve and to stick to the plan. There is no trade school course, or Masters of Online Entrepreneurship granted to hopeful graduates. You are not far off the mark if you have a suspicious that this might not be a particularly healthy way to live.

You may find yourself getting physically and mentally fatigued unless you make a point of getting up and moving around every so often. In studies conducted on folks whose jobs required long periods without breaks they found that many of them experienced headaches, joint pain, stiff shoulders, and eyestrain.

We’ve all heard of the risks of developing a deadly blood clot during long intercontinental air flights. Travelers have long been advised to get up out of their seats and walk the aisles to prevent this from happening.

It is strongly recommended that computer workers do the same by taking frequent breaks – not just for the bathroom – by walking around and up and down the stairs if possible. There are specific leg and foot exercises that are easy to do while you are working as well.

A young man in New Zealand almost died after developing deep vein thrombosis after long eighteen hour stretches of inactivity working on his computer. His condition was cleverly re-named e-thrombosis. A large blood clot developed in his leg, broke off and ended up in his lungs.

So there you have it: two completely different types of problems faced by the person wanting to work from home in his or her own online business. The first problems mentioned here – sifting through the scams that are everywhere online and then developing a business plan and sticking to it – these can be solved by learning from others who have already mastered the game.

Perhaps the best way to achieve your own measure of success is to find a mentor who can share ideas and experience, and guide you through the maze of possibilities. Among all the get rich quick schemes, there are genuine folks who have discovered successful formulas for making a living online. They are the ones who have put in the time and are now able to share their success with others like you.

The other is a health problem that can develop with this brand new method of working. Just as you took care of your health and safety in your previous jobs, it is up to you to exercise, eat right, and step away from that computer regularly. Working online may exercise your mind and your fingers, but you’ve got to take care of the rest of your body too.

1. Launch your own blog. Just go into Blogger by Google and follow the directions for starting a blog. Then move that blog to your own domain. Finally, integrate your blog design with your website design.

2. Pick a blog post that contains useful information and post that link with anchor text to a higher pagerank site than yours. At the end of your response, your sig file ad will appear so that everyone who reads that thread has the opportunity to see your ad. Search for forums that relate to your business, register, create a signature, and then take part in the discussion by posting a new thread or responding to another post. Again, this will put more hooks in the internet waters for you. This will aid in producing a profitable online business.

4. Advertise with Google AdWords. Where else can you gain access to over 100 million people in a few minutes? This is tricky if you do not know what you are doing. I suggest doing searches on “Google AdWords,” to find as much information as you can before starting.

I was clearing my email the other day. What does it takes to make your website stand out amongst the trillions out there? It does not matter if you are an individual doing some home-based online business.
